Rewolucje 8 finished

rew_8_material_fin

That was… few strange days.
From October 7th to November 2nd I created 36 pages of “Rewolucje in Space” comic book. That’s what you can see on the picture above.

That kind of puts to shame that 46/46 thing I did last year. This is not the complete album, you need to add 46 previously finished pages – that adds to a nice number of  82 pages. This is why it took a bit longer this year to finish that. These 46 pages needed few more short stories and some kind of story plot device to glue it all together. And I thought that wouldn’t take that long, but all in all it turned out to be almost another album.

Above: the brave space explorer. I always admired those brave ones who do things no one ever done before. Godspeed my friend. This is the 8th album in the series. It’ll probably be released at the beginning of December, I’ll let you know in a separate post when that happens.

If you’re wondering if this series will continue – have no fear. I already have 4 more albums written, or at least mind-sketched. Or have a good idea on how it should look like. That’s it I guess. Alle the news on Rewolucje I got right now. I’ll be selling the book through my store – you’ll be able to get an autographed copy of it – but there’ll be only like 20 copies available from me directly, so don’t miss the premiere.

Oh, almost forgot:

r8__tools

Last year I wrote about saying goodbye to your characters once you finish drawing them, similar to a wrap in hollywood terminology. The same goes for the tools I use. First one to go was the pencil. Then the watercolors, then ink. The desk is getting emptier each day. I expect it to be completely clean in few days just in time for Submachine 9 development.

Good bye my trusty friends. See you next year.

Hello Submachine 9.

24 hour comics day 2013

24h_rew_1

This week I went straight back into the insanity of continuous 24 hour comics drawing.

I’ve tried that two years ago and succeeded [check it our here], so for me that particular thing on my bucket list was already crossed out, didn’t want to do that all over again. This time the plan was a bit different. Creating a random, 24-page comic mini-album that’s revolving around a given subject is not my thing actually. Instead I made another plan for myself. 24-hours of non-stop drawing, that’s still on, but I took my own material – namely pages from my upcoming Rewolucje album.

But the thing is – those pages had to be triple A, album-quality work, not something created quickly and under pressure. So the plan was – 5 pages. Around four hours per page with some spare time for resting and talking to other artists – last time I was so focused on the task at hand that the whole social aspect of the experience went completely over my head. This time I wanted it to be more of a creative meeting. I already had the story and sketches done, it was just the matter of creating the final sketch on paper and painting. To my surprize the venue was small and a lot of people showed up, around 50 – some of them came to town especially for this event. Those were real troopers. Anyway, due to overcrowding the workplace was a bit small. I spent first four hours preparing final sketches and then busted out the big guns:

This picture was taken around 3 AM, and that’s actually when I was already finishing all 5 pages On this photo there’s the final, fifth page visible. Still lots of work was done on it after the photo though. So plan A took 15 hours to complete (12 PM – 3 AM). After that I went back to sketching. At this point I felt that it’s a good moment to stop painting and just go back to simpler tasks. I started sketching more pages from the album and also designed few characters. I was doing that until I ran out of paper – and that happened around 6 AM. So at this point I literally had NOTHING to do, except for socializing. But there is a fine line between being social and outgoing towards other people and being annoyingly interrupting to people who are trying to run the marathon.

I split around 7 AM with the feeling of a job well done. When I woke up I did a quality check and it all holds up nicely. You be the jugde. Here, or after buying the album once it’s released.

Big thank you to all people taking part – see you guys next year.

mfk aftermath

So many closures

Last week Dexter went down in flames and shame and we’re still asking ourselves – how is it possible that they made 8 seasons of that?…

Yesterday Breaking Bad finale aired and this series ended in the blaze of glory, taking the rightful place among the best tv shows of all time.

Lately I finished my opus magnum, Daymare Town 4, which proved that I still can do a neat game once in a while.

And today I finished 10 Gnomes. Now they just sit there in the window and once they cool off I’ll serve them to you.

Pastel Stories is no more. All my things are under my name right now. Aditionally I redesigned entire Pastel Games website, now you can easily access all of our distinctive series through their own mini-hubs.

Things are changing.

Time to move on.

Each time I’m about to draw or paint – I always buy few new things. It’s nice to have something squeaky clean, at least for a brief moment. This time it was a new batch of paper (but of course), few brushes and white gouache paint from Talens – the same one that served me so well when I was covering entire previous album in the fog. To be clear – I’m not starting a new album – I’m finishing it. It already has over 46 pages and I just need to add few more stories to wrap things up. It’s already written, by the way.

The sketches are waiting, now it’s only a matter of actually drawing the comic.

Through the years I learned that it’s kind of dangerous to have only one project open at any given time – if you hit a writers block on it – you’re stuck. But if you have two or even more projects at once – you can jump from one to another, and ride the wave of creativity as long as you physically can. That’s why I saved the best news for last. Starting from October I’m beginning the development of Submachine 9: the Temple.

Goodbye Walter White, thank you for everything.

Hello Murtaugh.

Rewolucje 8 upgrade

The works on next Rewolucje album has begun. Three stories scheduled to appear in this one needed some small upgrades. Two of them were cosmetic (translation and cleaning), but the third one needed a solid upgrade. As in – complete inking. This is the story from the Cartoonia comic anthology, and it was all done in pencil and waterpaint. For the sake of the new album integrity this needed to be unified with the rest of the material, hence the redo.

It took an entire weekend to properly ink all 20 pages. (March 22-24, 2013).

Is such a speedy work any good? Well, here’s a small example of the outcome (compared to the original version for your convenience). You be the judge.
